The link above is an interesting article about the life of a ski bum from a recent Ski Magazine. It states that jobs are changing in ski area. Basically the internet and jobs that involve a lot of travel are allowing for many more people to choose living in ski towns and becoming the new internet age ski bum. I see it first hand with clients and people I meet in the community. When I first moved to Tahoe 20+ years ago outside of construction, real estate or resort jobs the choices were limited. DFRE has done two of the three. The options have increased. Nothing like having choices in life!
The new options for ski bums to live in the mountains definitely affects the housing market bringing in more buyers, competition and demand for higher quality housing as many of these jobs are higher paying. The migration also has a positive influence on local communities as the demand for stronger educational opportunities and arts, for example, in the region rise.
Except for possibly increasing lift lines I like it.
