Another reason Truckee Tahoe is a great place to own real estate is the awesome proximity to endless cool things to do. Much to my wife’s chagrin this spring break we did a little stay-vaca, well at least the family did, I seemed to work a lot but they did a lot of cool stuff. Erin was not happy we were not on a beach somewhere as she pointed out, well, constantly all week. From the looks of Facebook there wasn’t a beach rental left unused in all of Mexico and Hawaii so we were probably better off. We probably helped the situation by staying home!
From Truckee we were in Sebastopol in a few hours. The Napa area is so quaint and fun. Unfortunately we weren’t there to taste wine at our friends winery Crux but went for our daughter’s basketball tournament. Our son went out and practiced golf at Santa Rosa G&CC and that looked like quality. Some good friends grew up there playing and I really want to go back. Great practice facility. Downtown Sebastopol is really cool and I heard has some great breweries. I missed those too, ugh. We drove through Santa Rosa to Cardinal Newman for a game. The devastation from the fires is tough to fathom. Hopefully we can go back soon if nothing else to spend money and help the local economy recovery. I am sure they will be back better than ever.
We played golf one day at Wildcreek Golf Club in Reno. The golf course might get sold to the state in order to build a new high school. That would be a crying shame. Golf needs cool municipal golf courses that are inexpensive and a place for everyone to play. Golf doesn’t have to be played on $100+ golf courses just to be fun. #SaveWildcreek There must have been 15 people in t-shirts and jeans hitting golf balls. It was great. There needs to be more of that. People of all playing ability levels just practicing and learning without paying an arm and a leg Matt and Dan were great in the golfshop. Save Wildcreek Reno government!
One morning was spent at Haggin Oaks in Sacramento testing golf clubs for my daughter. She is into it now and it is time as she has outgrown all the kids stuff. Tom Morton and his staff do an awesome job. What an amazing facility. The Super Shop has it all and I mean it all! The miniature putting golf course is cool. They even have a trendy food truck out front with great fries. Danielle Nash did the clubfitting and she was awesome. Besides having been an outstanding player at Cal she knows her fitting and teaching. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed the time and was made beyond comfortable. She had us on the TracMan, those things are awesome and a treat to use, and we had fun and learned. She even slipped my son in so he could test his driver. His confidence boomed with the detailed info provided showing his hardwork was paying off. On top of all of that Danielle, as my wife likes to say about the likes of Luke Walton, Kevin Love and Jimmy G, is “fun to look at”. It is OK I say that as that is what my wife says! She was extremely knowledgeable in the mental aspect of sports as will come in handy with her new step-kids and their burgeoning baseball and volleyball careers. Her fiance and family are lucky people. Tom Morton and staff of course are smart and lucky to have her on their staff. As if the time wasn’t fun enough players from the Sacramento Kings were getting fitted next to us. Being a basketball loving family that was cool. Haggin Oaks is top notch. I look forward to going back and playing the Alister Mackenzie designed golf course. Can’t believe I have never played there. I will change that soon.
We slipped in a round at Darkhorse in Auburn area so my son could get in a practice round. It is pictured here. What great land out there. The layout is fun and challenging. It was moist coming out of winter but with the Miracle March we just had that was to be expected. It is just a really cool and low key facility that is fun to play.
Amazingly on the way home we drove through the most challenging snow conditions in my 25 years of living in Tahoe. It was snowing and blowing as they will say! At twenty miles an hour it took awhile to get home but we made it. Fun day.
Now Ry is off to another basketball tournament in Stockton. Erin and Ethan are back in Reno playing golf at Sierra Sage. I am the lucky one at work. Somebody has to do it so they can have all that fun!
All of that fun basically within an hour of home. Napa is a few hours but an easy trip. We love living in Truckee seemingly close to everything.
Tomorrow I am going skiing! Northstar closes Sunday but we will get a few more weeks of skiing at Squaw/Alpine. Ryan and I will probably ski more. I for sure will. She would if it weren’t for that darn school thing! Ethan and Erin I think are moving into summer focus. Did someone say it was time to wipe the dust off the mountain bikes?
