One of the most beautiful alpine lakes in the world is the first taste of Truckee-Tahoe visitors receive when coming over Donner Summit from the Bay Area. This marks the entrance to Truckee. As much as Lake Tahoe is arguably the most famous alpine lake in the world Donner Lake might be one of the most underappreciated and the homeowners hope it stays that way. As a Truckee resident of almost twenty years now we constantly find ourselves enjoying Donner Lake for paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming, sunbathing and picnicking off the piers, fishing and camping over 4th of July. The easy access to downtown, even by bicycle, along with great ski area access to Northstar, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows and Sugar Bowl right up the hill Donner Lake is a great all year round community. The price range for real estate goes from the $300,000’s for the older and smaller cabins to $2,000,000+ for the lakefronts.
